Hello beauties,
It’s the second half of the year and the momentum seems to have doubled, how is it at your end ? I trust we are making headway right ? I want to quickly to a moment to shout out to everyone that reached out to me about my lips, really appreciate it.
Alright, so I have managed to deal with the internet demons tormenting my site, cleanup should be total soon, keep coming back please, you can be rest assured that the commitment to educate, inform and educate you has not not waned one bit. There’s a lot to talk about but I will do a quick flashback to the Lagos Makeup Fair that was held some weeks back, we will do a quick run down of how it went and subsequently bring up all pending issues.
I am proud to say I am a makeup artist and I am also very elated at the growth the beauty industry has experienced , gone are the days when you tell someone you are a makeup artist or a hair stylist or even a nail technician that they laugh at you, I am pleased to inform you that the story has changed and a lot of graduates are taking charge of the halkalı escort industry.
Going back to the main subject matter, the Lagos Makeup Fair has become Nigeria’s largest Make Up & Beauty Trade Show with 43 Exhibitors/ Beauty brands across Nigeria and over 1100 visitors attending the event now.
Shout to my homegirl Omolola Faleye for creating such an amazing platform .
For those interested,the next fair will be in Abuja on August 20th , it will be a great platform to shop, network with colleagues and brands owners.
The Lagos Makeup Fair was awesome and the beauty blogger in me particularly liked getting my goodie bags from exhibitors to review .The Beauty debate was hot with the topic – Nigerian Brand Versus International brands
We had Ngozi of Jaga Beauty and Kunbi Fashakin of Sitpretty Beauty for Indigenous brands and Ngozi Oni of Beauty and the Beholder and Tejumade of Brushstrokes for International brands.
As a judge, I had some points I detailed in favor of both parties :
Notable points from the debaters team Nigerian brands were;
The products are made with our tropical weather in mind.
They tend to focus is on our skin tones
The Nigerian brands helps to develop our economy
They listen to feedback and work on it, also understand the needs of the consumer
They provides employment opportunities for makeup artist , franchise owners etc
They meets the NAFAD approval and standard
They work with chemist to provide what suitable here
Notable points from International brand
They represent all skin tones
They produce on a larger scale
They help with career advancement i.e Product developer, researcher, chemist etc
They have a unified body that regulate the production FDA and carries out a lot of research.
The brands are affordable because of Volume and have meet international health standard of the various countries
In summary , at the end of the debate, the judges Funke Tonye Preghafi of Gifty daughter , Chidinma of Girly Essentials and myself agreed that they all have valid points and arrived at a unanimous decision of both teams emerging as winners.
I will conclude on the debate by saying that we need to think global and start local . When Buying a brand/product ask yourself some basic questions – will it work for my skin tone? will I product my face and not give me burns or breakout,will it work with our weather? will it last all day? what’s the coverage? what is the product made of?( ingredients to know if it is toxic or safe) , is it the real deal or cheap imitation ? etc
Most buying decision are influenced by foreign makeup artist who sometimes have been paid to do a you tube / Instagram video and rave about a product, we therefore shouldn’t be gullible to spend our hard earned money on such product, it’s important not to buy what is tending as against what will work for you; some local brands will actually do a better job.I also think that the regulatory bodies in Nigeria needs to step up as it is very alarming the rate at which cheap and harmful imitation of great brands get into our market.
