2024 has been a year of growth, reflection, and learning living slower. Let me share a little story about how it all began. Back in February, my husband and I ditched our hectic lives in Sydney and moved to Tasmania, an island that’s super peaceful with lots of greenery, ranked third in the world for air quality, gorgeous mountains, and a much slower vibe. We settled in the quiet countryside near Hobart, to be honest, it’s one of the best decisions we’ve made.
After years of living in the hustle and bustle of various cities, we now wake up to birds chirping, stroll through neighborhoods filled with flowers, and occasionally spot a bunny or a duck in our front yard. Even though Australia is known for its wild animals, I haven’t seen any kangaroos or snakes yet. This change of pace has allowed us to reconnect with ourselves and nature. Evening strolls have become my moment to pray, reflect, and tell God how much I love Him.
I’ve picked up some important lessons about living slower and intentionally along the way. Here are a few insights that have shaped my journey
1. Put God First
When you prioritize your relationship with God, everything else tends to fall into place. He provides direction, peace, and purpose in an ever-changing world. Remember Matthew 6:33. “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
2. Take Care of Your Health
Your health is your most valuable asset. No amount of money or success can replace it. Schedule regular check-ups, exercise, and eat a balanced diet. Prevention, as they say, is better than cure.
3. Walk Your Own Path
It’s okay to walk alone toward your goals, but always seek guidance from the Holy Spirit. He’ll reveal the path meant for you. This is your journey, and not everyone will understand it. Trust in your vision. (John 16:13)
4. Manage Expectations
Don’t expect too much from others. Instead, focus on what truly makes you happy. Be honest with yourself, and stop trying to impress people who don’t matter, it’s exhausting and pointless.
5. Start Your Own Projects
Financial stability often comes from thinking outside the box. Don’t rely on jobs, explore side hustles, or start a project. It could be anything from creating content on TikTok to starting an AI agency. And hey, YouTube University is just a click away.
6. Protect Your Peace
Stay away from negativity, toxic environments, and harmful people. Your peace of mind is priceless. Set boundaries and create a sanctuary of positivity around yourself.
7. Master Emotional Maturity
Maturity is about controlling your reactions and staying calm under pressure. Overreacting rarely solves anything. Take a deep breath, step back, and respond thoughtfully.
8. Build a Supportive Circle
Surround yourself with friends who cheer you on and uplift you. Be intentional about your relationships because your friends can shape your future. And don’t forget to be that great friend to others too because living slower sometimes means disconnecting from socials to be alone with yourself and your thoughts.
9. Aim for Financial Stability
Money isn’t everything, but it sure makes life easier. Work toward financial stability by saving, investing, and creating multiple income streams. A solid financial foundation can reduce stress and open doors.
10. Be Consistent and Disciplined
Consistency and discipline are game-changers. Small, deliberate actions each day can lead to significant transformations over time. And remember, one wrong decision can undo a lot, so make choices carefully.
11. Focus on What Matters and living slow
Don’t waste time impressing people who don’t add value to your life. Instead, focus on what truly matters: meaningful relationships, personal growth, and purposeful living.
