Black Friday has changed over the years. It’s no longer the same frenzied shopping experience with irresistible discounts on must-have items with. These days, many brands use it to clear out unpopular stock, while the truly great deals are few and far between. This year, I approached it with a different mindset, and the results were surprisingly satisfying.

What I Bought in 2024 Black Friday

After months of planning and curating my wishlist on Amazon, I finally decided on two essential items. Both were practical, well-thought-out purchases:

  1. Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask: Originally 32 AUD, I snagged it for 29 AUD. While not a massive discount, it’s something I used often and needed for my dry lips as the seasons change.
  2. La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5: This soothing balm, I just added to my skicncare routine for my skin barier, it was initially priced at 21 AUD but dropped to just 15 AUD. It felt like a steal for such a versatile product.

Both items came with free shipping, which made the experience even better. It felt great to purchase items I genuinely needed without the guilt of overindulging.

Why These Purchases Felt Right

In the past, Black Friday often tempted me into buying things I didn’t need with 50-60 % off. This year, I’ve been focusing on downsizing and breaking free from and becoming a minimalist. I’m learning to shop intentionally and only for items that add real value to my life.My last Skincare Haul Here

This shift in mindset has helped alot. Instead of impulsively buying discounted items, I focused on products I’d carefully considered for months. The result? No buyer’s remorse and complete satisfaction.

Black Friday Isn’t What It Used to Be

Let’s be honest: The deals aren’t as exciting as they once were. Many discounts are either unimpressive or match prices you’d find at other times of the year. For instance, I noticed several items advertised as “Black Friday deals” were no cheaper than they’d been weeks earlier.

I think the magic of shopping was the thrill of getting amazing deals on items we truly wanted. But as brands stopped offering discounts on popular products, shoppers began losing interest. For me, this shift has been a reminder to prioritize quality over quantity when it comes to shopping.

Lessons Learned

Here are some key thing i learnt from my experience:

  • Patience Pays Off: Curating a wishlist over time helped me focus on what I truly needed while avoiding impulse buys.
  • Not Every Discount Is a Deal: Some prices didn’t drop much, even during Black Friday. It’s important to compare and watch trends.
  • Free Shipping Is a Bonus: While I’ve learned to be okay with paying for shipping, it’s always a treat when free shipping is included.

My Verdict

This year, I embraced a simpler, more intentional approach to Black Friday. My picks—though modest—were meaningful, practical, and worth every penny. This experience reminded me that the key to enjoying Black Friday lies in thoughtful shopping, not impulsive spending.
