Hey beauties, I never talked about why I shut my down my beauty brand 6 years after and moved abroad. Here goes my story … It’s been 434 weeks (8.32 years) that I launched our first collection at Beauty Essentials by Nsure (BEN) in Nigeria , at first, it was clear makeup pouch, bag and eventually expanded into hygiene products which was the formulation of our very first Brush cleaner which has since become a staple in Makeup kit. I still have the pictures of the first prototype and remember how I couldn’t sleep due to anxiety and excitement prior to the launch at Lagos Makeup Fair 2015 at Ikeja ,Lagos.

How did I start BEN ?

Surprisingly, it was from seeing a problem, being a makeup artist, I didn’t want to carry bulky makeup box that already weighs a tonne around, not to mention setting up in clients location and trying prevent messing up my client’s expensive furniture . I was burdened with how to make life easier for makeup professional / makeup lovers. It started with organizational tools, then hygiene because I hated the sight of dirty, crusty makeup brushes .I knew it could spread bacteria if not properly cleaned and disinfected .

Beauty Essentials by Nsure Brush Cleaner
Product Demo at the fair

Meanwhile note that I was a successful and experienced freelance makeup artist and had worked with so many local and international brands e.g MAC, Maybelline, Lancôme and so on this helped my confidence and urge to start my brand.

It wasn’t easy but all in all very worth it . Here are what I would advise you while you are planning to move to a new location.

Lesson 1: Sell the Products and Myself

The products are the area of focus, make sure the product developed meets a need and is affordable. Eventually people saw how successful the brand was and wanted beauty business consultation with me which was a total different market and I should have explored. Occasionally, I consulted in beauty and various unconnected industries. If I were to go back, I would develop being a consultant as well. Knowledge and expertise make you money and can be done anywhere via consulting.

Lesson 2: Exploring other sectors in the beauty industry (Hygiene, tools and accessories)

There are categories in the beauty industry that I find very lucrative, low competition and sustainable. I went all out manufacturing locally in Nigeria, I started with organization tools ,pouches etc and Brush cleaner spray as I saw the need. The idea of developing a product to solve problem was exciting. Though being a makeup artist is highly competitive and slightly saturated in Nigeria, Bridal makeup artistry pays highest because all that is required really is your artistry skill but owning a makeup brand / retailer will task you. The sustainable way to remain in business is to make sure you cater to makeup artist needs and also to end users thus you have enough customers to service.

Besides, I should have taken my online store more seriously than I did, its important, the Direct To Consumer (DTC) business model helped with feedback, connecting, educating and improving our product offering. to have control over distribution channel and attending makeup fairs were great platform for reducing how quickly our products were copied and meeting new clients.

Lesson 3: The pain in weathering the unexpected health concerns

When I started, we were team of 5 which wasn’t a big team. My loving husband helped me with everything and anything, not too long after I got pregnant and I had to stop business due to health challenges and COVID 19 happened in 2020. I urgently had to travel out of the country in 2021 July for intensive medical care. The unexpected move made me take a break I Hence, quickly consolidated and valued the business and sold it off or handed it over to a trusted employee to continue.

Lesson 4. Work on my Career goals and Develop myself

While I was in living in Nigeria, I was more interested in Sales and Research. I had just two business training and that was it. The knowledge I got was useful and helped with making better business decision and direction. I wasn’t thinking about the international market just then.

In the meantime, I concentrated on growing my career and took some International Certification in Luxury – Retail & Customer Experience in 2022 and Creation & Branding, Operations & Supply Chain 2023 (Inside LVMH Certificate) and Master’s in Business Management and Commerce (UK). And Global Sustainability and innovation (Australia) and before I get my global role.

There was no way to continue as my core customers was in Nigeria and faced with new realities I had to adjust .

What now?

My love and passion for the beauty industry is still alive despite living abroad , I have managed to attend one  Beauty Expo Australia too. My advise is to keep improving and getting better and preparing for the perfect fit in the global market (AMEN). I have refused to be stagnant and found other ways to evolve and remain relevant without feeling unproductive. There are times I wish I could share the knowledge I know with fellow brand owners, Makeup artist and brainstorm on how to move the African Beauty Industry forward I guess I will start blogging more on that here.  If you don’t know how to start take baby steps by subscribing to Beauty industry Newsletter, Cosmetics News etc

These are my honest emotions and I don’t know if anyone can relate, I do not have any regrets, it was a phase of my life that I gave my best and had fun doing so. I thank God for his mercies and grace for without him, it would not have been possible.  Running my business opened me up to great friendship and opportunities. It’s an emotional roller coaster being away from routine of doing what you love, thank God for technology helping us keep in touch with lovely family and friends. such great emotional support system. My Keyword right now is intentional living, I am much more aware of my time and picked up new hobbies such as gardening, cooking, writing and exploring the city I live in.

Do you find it easy to settle into a new location or it takes time to settle, kindly share with me in the comment.

Until next time.

Hello beauties,

How are we all doing? Time is really doing some fast forward stunts on us this year, we are already in the second quarter and gaining seriously on another. Well, it doesn’t really matter though as long as we are on the right track and doing better than how we were doing before.

Alrighty, let’s leave goals and all, it’s not the beginning of the year anymore, we will just jump straight into the subject matter. So it is no longer news that we have quite a sizable number of makeup artists at every nook and cranny, as some you are aware I am very passionate about the business side of beauty as a whole which is why this post actually applies to anyone working in the beauty industry whether you are in the nail tech business or you are a hairstylist.

Well, the latest trend I see now is owning a makeup studio like hours after some of us finished our training 🙂  , I mean common people, these things take time. I have owned a studio for a little over 5 years now and I  think it wont be out place to talk about it from my personal experience.

Here’s the most critical thing about owning a studio – the motive. Are you owning a studio because you want to be among the number?  or are you owning one because you have a well laid out plan and structure for the studio to pay for itself. Since I was born and now  I am getting old ( pardon the reference from our popular gospel chorus), I have noticed that some of them do not last beyond 2 years and why is this so? You answer please 🙂

Now let me share my thoughts with you, before you  decide to own a brick and mortar studio make sure you already have clients that are willing to come over to that  studio to have their makeup done, well unless you have a large number of home service calls you might just be alright.

One of the biggest headaches with running a studio is getting loyal staff, trust me when I say this could be a living hell .Are there still good and loyal staff ? yes , are they easy to find ? CAPITAL NO. Trust me as I speak from experience, you will end up being the sales girl, cleaner, marketer, social media manager and yes you will have to reply emails ,make calls , and do all other things that makes a studio function, did I forget the application? Mba, that is for you to do as well dearie 🙂 , so like they say in Zonga land – “Be Prepared”.

Also, although a personal thing , you need to be weary of time wasters that come around to do nothing  or are just around you to pick your brain, you end up consulting  without pay. Information might be free sometime but not all the time, years of knowledge counts for something.

You need to prepare your mind for what admin people call running cost – you will pay for electricity, rent ,generator repair, fuel/ diesel, local government levy ,furniture and fittings etc . All these bills will keep hitting you like “hurricane Damilola” .

You work more hours and practically don’t have a life, unlike what a zealous brother(Read here)  said about us makeup artists , ain’t no laying about dearies, you will work.I learnt as well that retail also help supports when the business is slow and covers for some expenses. Make sure you are on top of your inventory and you only sell fast moving products that won’t tie down cash in products.

Owing a studio doesn’t mean you are better off than those who are freelancing,a lot of multi billion companies run online business models and don’t own stores across the world. In a nutshell,if  you can handle it go ahead and if you can’t then another option would be to work with a brand like Zaron , House of Tara, MAC , Bobbi Brown etc.  or just freelance like some genius makeup artist st Jide ola  and Bimpe Onokoya .You can even decide to rent a space in an hair salon, nail tech studio or beauty supply store to test and  build clientele.

I wasn’t in a rush to get a studio when I finished training , when I eventually did , I built a small studio  out of my parents house which cost me  a lot but I knew once it was complete I wasn’t going to be paying rent anymore. Makeup artist make mistakes and think that once they have a studio clients will automatically start to roll ,well, sorry to burst your bubble, no be so oh!

So with all we have gone through, before you open that studio, sit down and do your math, remember that you are in business to make money and not to show off how big your studio is  or how highbrow area your studio location is.The ball like they say is in your court 😉

I would love to hear from you , kindly share your experiences and thoughts below.

Hey beauties,

I was tagged in a post on Instagram and I swore I wasn’t going to get involved but then I realized that keeping quiet is the reason why we are battling with this perception İzmir Escort problem.

Makeup artist
Makeup artist

A lot of makeup artists are perceived as layabouts, loafers, no-do-goods, runs girls and the list just  goes on and on, there was a particular individual that mentioned that our kits are just worth a measly 40k, imagine that, how uniformed the supposedly informed people are, a typical MAC foundation costs 18k5, Lacombe foundation costs 23k, now how about that? Last I checked I have all these products from different brand in different quantities .

Now, the question is why won’t people perceive makeup artists as layabouts? Almost every home boasts of a makeup artist, which is not an entirely bad thing right ? Infact, I support the more the merrier phrase but in this case the more is causing a lot of headaches due to the low barrier to entry, some do not even get the requisite training and just like that BOOM! A makeup artist is born. The industry is large and fast growing with international investors trooping in, I am guessing that is another attraction.

So here’s the thing, every profession is infiltrated but it doesn’t necessarily demean that profession now does it ? There are few of us that have put our blood and sweat into this profession to make it right and stand out as it ought to, alas, the perception seems to be getting worse and I think it’s time to say enough of the madness and so I am going to quickly run you through my own personal career advancement in the “layabout” makeup profession.

I started this layabout makeup profession in my 200L  when I was studying economics at the Lagos state university ( I have since gone back for my Msc in Human resource planning),since then I haven’t looked back and this layabout profession has really been good to me.

In the course of laying about I also decided to attend a certificate course in entrepreneurship at the Lagos business school after which I  managed the Nouba brand for a little while alongside my makeup studio called Nsure beauty studio.

Then, I really got into the layabout spirit and decided to experience MAC cosmetics, if  I was going to be good at laying about I need to see how the international layabouts do it. Well, it was as expected, there were a lot of layabout trainings and exposure.I also laid about with some other international brands like Maybelline and Inglot.

I then thought to myself, OK, I think I am certified layabout now, I run a beauty blog that educates fellow layabouts and people that have interests in laying about, I have a layabout studio that has produced several layabouts that doing great in this layabout business of ours, I am part of the advocates for the makeup artists guild which is positioned to help the industry advance, I have several collaborations with top newspaper houses and I have been featured on buzzed, I also have partnership with many beauty brands , it was time to take this layabout thing to another level.

I birthed a wholly  indigenous brand called Beauty Essentials by Nsure that provides beauty essential tools and products to make this laying about business easier for us to loaf some more. I can humbly say it is well accepted by layabouts they are loving the lazy appeal it gives them.

I am still working tirelessly on how I can layabout some more as the Lord gives me strength. It is time that the world knows that layabout is serious business, it has a defined career path if you do it right, so it’s alright for any individual to say what he/she feels cause the last I checked, it’s still a free world right?  But then, even with all the freedom we need to do proper research and find out what the actual facts are before bashing other people’s dignity, it’s gone on for so long and the world needs to know that we are not joking with this layabout thing that we İzmit Escort do.

The cost of a makeup box and gadgets (lights , Camera etc) could buy a car, a makeup artist upgrades him/herself regularly in emerging trends, a makeup artist is educated, a makeup artist will give you a run for your money in any reasonable discussion, makeup artistry is a real business – no joke. Some of us know where we are going and we are following the passion and drive that can lead to future empires, we are coming …..WATCH OUT!

Hey beauties,
Told you I am back for good 🙂 and you know how excited I get when we approach the Christmas season. If you stick around you just might win some amazing free gifts in days to come 😉 .
So,last week was a very exciting one for me and a lot of makeup artist here in Lagos…….. why, you might ask ?  well the legendary Sam Fine came visiting .He was in Nigeria as a facilitator for GTB Fashion weekend, to say the class was filled up is trying to be modest, it was pilling over. He had everyone glued  watching him do his thing in real life, flesh and blood, such a bundle of talent that one man.
If you are a makeup artist and don’t know Same fine , you better ask somebody and yes you owe me makeup points for not knowing 🙂 .I was unable to attend the GTbank fashion weekend Masterclass but was all in for the  class organized by MAC Cosmetics Nigeria courtesy Bobbi Taylor Company- great job guys!
Sam Fine held a masterclass in collaboration with MAC Cosmetics at Rele Art Gallery, Lagos.A lot of makeup artist, beauty bloggers, beauty editors and beauty enthusiasts such as Banke Meshida-Lawal, Lola Maja, Kaylah Oniwo, Theodora Mogo (Doranne Beauty), Ezinne Alfa (Beauty in Lagos), David Sucre, Jide St. Ola, Anita Brows Adetoye, Dodos Uvieghara, Tenny Aisha Kashaam (Tenny Coco), Oluchi Onuigbo, Stella Maris (Stella’s Addiction), Funke Babs-Kufeji, myself and more.

Here are a few tricks from Sam fine.

Bleached brows – Aurburn brown or warmed tone lip pencil and not dark brown

Use concealers to cover eye bags ,using your finger to smooth and warm it under eyes

Add gloss to the lips a bit when using matte lipstick to avoid it looking cracked and divided

Cream formulae can be blotted after you have dabbed into the skin, He loves cream foundation for the finish it gives and works with them rather than liquid foundation

Contour with cream using makeup sharp corner makeup sponges/wedges, blend in your high lights with then actual colour of the skin, blend nose contour with exact shade just outside the nose

You can add a little bit of black gel to foundation to create dimension around the fore head and jawline

To cover fine line , place loose powder the eye ( and he doesnt bake) whisk away with a set of pressed powder and blend with a brush

Use a dark bronzer and powder to create dimension ( contour) around the cheek and forehead

Its okay to use peach and orange blush

Smoke the bottom lashes using a tight angle brush to get a more defined /soft eyes finish

Use lighter natural eye shadow to highlight beneath the brow and not concealers

I already gave out my MAC cosmetic goodies to those following on Instagram, dont forget to follow us on Instagram Misykona and Nsurebeautystudio.

Till my next post ,

Hi there beautiful people,

I am a homegrown girl , I get extra excited when people are doing stuff that looks remotely indigenous even if not entirely so. How did this happen? well dollar happened and I have been doing extra research on made in Nigeria or let me rephrase – made for Nigerians.Made for Nigerians simply means products that have Nigerians in mind during conception and manufacture. Don’t have my head yet it might not be much but it is certainly a step in the right direction, let’s celebrate little beginnings.

Having put that out there, it’s probably safe to look into Classic Makeup product line .The brand is “owned” by a Nigerian man with their headquarters in Trade fair complex along Badagry express way.

I have had to listen to so many oohs and ahhs about this product line, I decided to try it out myself. This review is based on the result I got and not influenced by any one’s opinion , I have  a lot of people  asking me if the product works ? if is it worth the hype? I just had to get my hands dirty in order to be able to answer sefaköy escort appropriately.

I  went ahead and got the following items listed below:

Classic makeup concealing mattifying Foundation(bottle) -It comes in 5 different shades 01,02,03,04,05.

Classic makeup matifying foundation (tube) – It comes in different shades like Marykay 500,507,600, 607, 708.

Classic makeup automatic eyebrow and waterproof eyeliner ( Black)

Classic makeup matte lipstick in Isabella (deep wine)

See swatches and review below —

The Pros for the Classic makeup concealing mattifying Foundation(Bottle)-

Price varies from N1000 to N1600

It has a very fluid texture.

It is buildable and has a fair coverage.

It doesn’t oxidate and leaves the face matte for a while ( you will need to touch up after a few hours)

Con-

It cakes if not properly blended.

The Pro for Classic Makeup matifying foundation  (tube )-

Prices Varies from N850 to N1800

It gives a fuller coverage.

Cons-

Its very Oily

It oxides and has more orangey undertone

The Pro for Classic Makeup automatic eyebrow and waterproof eyeliner (Black)-

Its a cool product because it has both eyeliner and eye pencil at both ends

Cons

The automatic eyebrow is not meant for eyebrow but for the upper eye lid

The black felt ink end once dries becomes a faint black

The water proof eyeliner if applied intensely  smudges

The Pro  Classic Makeup Pure Matte Lipstick in Isabella
Price is between N800 and N1500
Its True to colour
Long lasting
Gives a matte finish

Con
A lip balm should be used before applying the lip stick to avoid cracks.

My Verdict
I used the Classic makeup concealing mattifying Foundation (bottle)  on clients and from the picture above you can tell that it came out nice. The makeup definitely wears off after a few hours and you will need to touch up a few times,I will not advise makeup artist to use the products  for shoot or on a bride or clients that wants a long lasting makeup .The concealing mattifying foundation is the only item that I like and although it is  cheap it did a fairly decent job.

Have you used this brand also ? please share your honest review below,  I would love to read from you.

Hello beauties,

It’s the second half of the year and the momentum seems to have doubled, how is it at your end ? I trust we are making headway right ? I want to quickly to a moment to  shout out to everyone that reached out to me about my lips, really appreciate it.

Alright, so I have managed to deal with the internet demons tormenting my site, cleanup should be total soon, keep coming back please, you can be rest assured that the commitment to educate, inform and educate you has not not waned one bit. There’s a lot to talk about but I will do a quick flashback to the Lagos Makeup Fair that was held some weeks back, we will do a quick run down of how it went and subsequently bring up all pending issues.

I am proud to  say I am a makeup artist and I am also very elated at the growth the beauty industry has experienced , gone are the days when you tell someone you are a makeup artist or a hair stylist or even a nail technician that they laugh at you, I am pleased to inform you that the story has changed and a lot of graduates are taking charge of the halkalı escort industry.

Going back to the main  subject matter, the Lagos Makeup Fair has become  Nigeria’s largest Make Up & Beauty Trade Show with 43 Exhibitors/ Beauty brands across Nigeria and  over 1100 visitors attending  the event now.

Shout to my homegirl  Omolola Faleye for creating such an amazing platform .

DSC_8952-768x513 Tejumade Brush stroke and Ngozi Beauty and Beholder

Ngozi Jaga Beauty and Kunbi Sitpretty lmuf nigerian beauty debate Eni Lise and Bimpe Onakoya Nigerian Beauty Bloggers

For those interested, the next fair will be in Abuja on August 20th , it will be a great platform to shop, network with colleagues and brands owners.

The Lagos Makeup Fair was awesome and the beauty blogger in me particularly liked getting my goodie bags from exhibitors to review .The Beauty debate was hot with the topic – Nigerian Brand Versus International brands

We had Ngozi of Jaga Beauty and Kunbi Fashakin of Sitpretty Beauty  for Indigenous brands and Ngozi Oni of Beauty and the Beholder and Tejumade of Brushstrokes for International brands.

As a judge, I had some points I detailed in favor of both parties :

Notable points  from the debaters team Nigerian brands were;

The products are made with our tropical weather in mind.

They tend to focus is on our skin tones

The Nigerian brands helps to develop our economy

They listen to feedback and work on it, also understand the needs of the consumer

They provides employment opportunities for makeup artist , franchise owners etc

They meets the NAFAD approval and standard

They work with chemist to provide what suitable here

Notable points from International brand

They represent all skin tones

They produce on a larger scale

They help with career advancement i.e Product developer, researcher, chemist etc

They have a unified body that regulate the production FDA and carries out a lot of research.

The brands are affordable because of Volume and have meet international health standard of the various countries

In summary , at the end of the debate,  the judges Funke Tonye Preghafi of Gifty daughter , Chidinma of Girly Essentials  and myself  agreed that they all have valid points and arrived at a unanimous decision of both teams emerging as winners.

I will conclude on the debate by saying that we need to think global and start local . When Buying a brand/product ask yourself some basic questions – will it work for my skin tone? will I product my face and not give me burns or breakout, will it work with our weather? will it last all day? what’s the coverage? what is the product made of?( ingredients to know if it is toxic or safe) , is it the real deal or cheap imitation ? etc

Most buying decision are influenced by foreign makeup artist who sometimes have been paid to do a you tube / Instagram video and rave about a product, we therefore  shouldn’t be gullible to spend our hard earned money on such product, it’s important not to buy what is tending as against what will work for you; some local brands will actually do a better job.I also think that  the regulatory bodies in Nigeria needs to step up as it is very alarming the rate at which cheap and harmful imitation of great brands get into our market.

Thank you to everyone who came over to introduce and take a selfie with me,much appreciated. To everyone who came to visit our Beauty Essentials by N’sure stand / Mc Herbal Nigeria stand – Kisses. Let’s do it again pretty soon.

Hiya Beautiful People,

I am a bit upset and I will tell you why in a bit, so before I get all sappy let me quickly reach out to all my people in the eastern space – Enugu to be precise. The Enugu Makeup Fair 2 (EMUF2) will be live this weekend so if you are around the coal city show some love by visiting our Beauty Essentials by N’sure stand.

Ok, so where was I before in interjected some quick free adverts 😉 Ah ha! , yes I am upset, never mind the smiley I am indeed upset. Alright, here is the reason for my annoyance – I have virtually lost count when it comes to number of phone calls I get from intending brides, I humbly tell them my rates and here’s the usual responses/ questions — “Haba just for makeup ?” or ” why are you so expensive?” I bet if you are a professional in the beauty industry you can easily relate to these responses.

Untitled-2

Why is it that the general public have no problem paying a top musician 2 million or more for a few hours of entertainment as against paying measly thousand to makeup professionals that are in no wise less important that the musician ? – Infact I am now very angry.
Even in my anger I see that the blame is not entirely on the clients, I mean how does one explain a makeup artist posting a deal for bridal makeup for N2699 on one of these popular deals sites .I was livid, that is not a deal that is selling your birthright like Esau did , like what exactly are they paying for ?? – The eyebrows alone? Does he/she live next door to all the intended clients?? Does anyone have the right answers??
As the saying goes “Good work ain’t cheap and cheap work ain’t good.” We all love deals right? so do I but then I put the fear of God when I bargain people down as well , the situation is going all the way down no thanks to the saturation of the industry. Soon and very soon I am positive that industry killers will understand that there are still some professionals in the industry that actually see it as a business and not a means to an end or is it an end to a means now ??

This is my business and it’s supposed to pay my bill therefore I treat it as such and not as a charity or hobby. I hope to do a follow up post on the business of bridal, I have also taken the liberty to compare what makeup artists charge in Europe and the rest of the world, expect that soon too.

Now the big question is why do some of us charge the rates that we do? It’s actually pretty simple as I will try outline some of the factor that determine

LOCATION: Before you can get a rate off me, I have to know where you intend to dress from. This is important so factor in the timing, cost of getting there etc. If it is out of state, I need to be sure you will be willing to provide accommodation and other logistics- all of these costs come from whatever I charge the client.

PRODUCTS: When you need a makeup artist to work on your face, of course you don’t expect he/she to come and start asking if you have foundation, matifier or powder .As a professional, we arrive at venue with a fully stocked kit to cater to all your needs .The rest of the work is to pamper and make you feel like a princess for your special day.
You also have authority to decide which choice you want – traditional makeup application or airbrush; some are even specific with the brand of makeup they want. There you have it, imagine having to buy different brands just to satisfy a client trust me when I say it costs a fortune, for instance I bought some MAC cosmetics foundation for N10000 and Kat Von D foundation for N17000 and I had to buy in different skin shades. These products don’t particularly last a lifetime before you say Jack Robinson you are ordering for another batch , so I hope you are getting a clear idea of what it takes to be a professional and I have not even included makeup tools like makeup brushes , brush cleaner, makeup wipes etc. Lately, the exchange rate has gone up and product prices have doubled , this affects my pricing as well.

EXPERTISE: You most definitely are paying for my expertise just like with every other skilled professional .Product knowledge, standard products, techniques & makeup that will last all day .P.S I always review my prices regularly to reflect my current level of experience and skill; I have clients calling to consult about skin issues and what they need to do and not do before the event. An unquantifiable factor that falls under expertise is my time; sometimes I have to be up 3am to arrive at client’s venue at 4am.

PROFESSIONALISM: I show up at the clients take off point even if it has been reported in the news that Lagos is under water .I don’t just show up, I show up on time, I am at your mercy once we have an agreement – that professionalism is also unquantifiable yet we try to have the client pay a bit for this.

I have one advise for intending brides though, when an artist charges you peanuts, be afraid, be very afraid. I can tell you for free that he/she might deliver a shoddy service or will not give you the undivided attention you need on your big day; it’s your choice really 🙂

So for all you intending brides, choose well and choose wisely and then for you makeup artists making this less of a profession – God is watching you in 3D.

Till my next post
Hugs and kisses

Hey , but the reality on ground is we need to watch it- as there is a thin line between love and hate , there is also a very very thin line between the before and after of makeup application. I kid you not when I say I have seen some wonders and with the kind of transformation I have seen I begin to wonder why the person didn’t just opt for plastic surgery.

Don’t get me wrong, makeup can transform you from plain Jane to a sexy Siren, it can also accentuate your features by giving you higher cheeks bones, pointed nose and bigger eyes and even a flawless skin with the right products and technique. You could hide all your blemishes and under eye wrinkles leaving you looking like you just got an instant facelift but I beg of you let us do it with some degree of moderation and the fear of God 

Now, what really got me into writing this post is the blatant bastardization of Photoshop. I have seen a picture where the nose of the person was literally chiseled off using the Photoshop wonder tool. It is worthy to note that makeup application should be based on personal preference as some like it loud while some prefer it natural/ subtle.

I am not against Photoshop either but then we need to understand what is real and what is not. Extreme cases of Photoshop have most certainly changed the consumer-producer relationship because client’s expectation wasn’t met.

When I started makeup application, Photoshop and other apps weren’t this popular, you couldn’t necessarily rely on photo retouching to do your job for you, but today – Hello, you see some makeup artists who refuse to blend foundation and powder properly, eyeshadow fallout, bleeding lips etc and then try to clean up using Photoshop blur.

For me ,the only acceptable time to use Photoshop is when there are blemishes , a cold sore or pimples mostly instances that’s do not require everyday makeup to cover .

When we apply makeup, it is done with a makeup brush not a magic wand and it is sometimes very difficult to explain to clients that most images they see on social media or magazine covers have been retouched either wither Photoshop, filter or an app.

To avoid disappointment or unrealistic expectation look in the mirror, there is no filter, app or Photoshop. Who you see is the real you, the reality on ground is that Photoshop is not real. Let’s try to live with that fact.

Till my next post,
love ,kisses and hugs
